So I cant believe that I almost did not run this race today! I started out by doing a easy 4mi run around my neighborhood. My leg felt pretty good, did a couple strides and then it started to get tight and heavy, so I was feeling a little worried. I even told my poor exhausted tax accountant husband not to come to the race because I wasnt going to being to pull off what I was hoping for.(he was very sad that he missed me coming in but came for the awards) Got changed into my race clothes and headed to the race.

Rode the bus up with Linda10k and then mingled with the other blogggers. We got up to the start line and I was scoping out my competition. At this point I knew if I could push hard that I could win it. My plan had been to run with Mike and Bill but at the gun I took off and suprisenly felt so good.  I knew I had to bank the miles on the downhill cause I knew there was some uphill coming towards the middle and end. Man I just felt so good today. I kept passing guy after guy and was loving it!  I have not felt like this for awhile and it just felt good to feel good and to feel like I had could keep pushing. I think doing 8-10 mi daily is helped because then 6 mi feels like nothing and I know I can push for 6 mi. At around mile 5 I had a spot where I could look behind me to see if there was any girls, I thought I saw one so I picked up the pace. (It ended not being a chick) The end was cool, all the guy bloggers were there cheering me on and helping me to push the last little bit. There also were alot of people I knew at the end that were yelling my name so that was kinda fun. My bishops wife was there to watch her son and daughter (her son was seconds behind me) but she got lots of  pictures of me coming in and getting to break the tape:) Thanks again Steve for donating and sponsoring this race and all the others!!!!!! and to Mike for being a great running partner!

Splits were: (and I cant remember what happened at each mile like alot of you, I just zone out) 5:36, 6:22, 6:06, 6:29, 6:34, 6:39 and last .2 was 6:35 (? I stopped my garmin 10 sec late). avg pace 6:17

So overall I was very happy with this race, a 3 min PR and my leg felt good it is now a little tight but not as bad as I thought it would be. April got sick so I see her on Tues night.

Congratulations on the win! Was the course the same as last year?

From Jon on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 14:14:31

3 minute PR and a win! Can't get any better than that!

From Superfly on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 14:25:07

Good to meet you in person too. Kind of. Sorry I didn't really introduce myself. I'm kind of all over the place when I get in large crowds.

Good thing you decided to come today. Great race. You'll be dominating everyone this year. Good Job!

From MarcieJ on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 14:28:23

Sasha,

No the course was different, instead of an out and back portion on a dirt trail they had you weave up through some neighborhoods, which had some tough sections. I think this course may be slightly faster but not by much.

Thanks Jon-it was a good day, and heck I even got a new pair of shoes courtesy of the SG Running Center so even better!

From Superfly on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 14:32:17

I'd say rough guess that it's 25-30 seconds faster if any.

From Cody on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 14:35:27

Wow! Incredible. Good Job!

From Mike Warren on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 15:02:46

Marcie, what a great race! It was good to see it all come together for you. I know how hard you train and just happy it's paying off. Enjoy the victory and get ready to do it again!

From James on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 16:16:12

Nice run on a back to back week of racing. You would have smoked me today!

From Sasha Pachev on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 16:41:43

Looking at Clyde and Dave, and assuming that both of them did not bonk together today, which would be unlikely, this predicts no slower than 1:28 in Moab.

From Brent on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 16:50:11

MarcieeeeeeJ - 1000 commando points for the overall win and PR. What is your formula, race day, put the hammer down again, sweet, sweet, race under 40 minutes.

Stay Kool, you da chicka, B of BS Rools out

From MichelleL on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 16:52:49

Oh my gosh! What a great race! I am so happy for you and your huge PR! I am so glad you are feeling better. It seems like Moab was just a sneak preview. Keep up the great work! Have you decided on Ogden? I am thinking to perhaps run the full marathon instead of the half, it would be so fun to run with Josse, and my running partner MacK is also running the full, and it would be awesome to have you there too, we could all run as a team and kick some tail as a team. (Of course I won't be in great shape if I ran it, but you would be!)

From Jody on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 17:02:53

CONGRATS!!! I am so happy for you!! You ran an awesome race! To think you almost didn't run? I am just so excited for you!

From Dale on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 18:55:19

Great PR and win!

From andee on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 19:45:49

GO MARCIEJ!!!! Congratulations that is so awesome. I wish we could have been there cheering you on. The boys cheered when my mom called and told us -they thought it was pretty neat. You are doing such a great job - keep it up. We are all looking forward to spending some time with you this week.

From Superfly on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 20:56:49

To all who care: I've analyzed the course and decided that this years course was infact the same or possibly even slower than last years course.

So Marci your PR is a real PR on as tough or tougher course.

Here is a short explanation:

Mile 1 is basically the same

Mile 2 last year was slower by 10 seconds

Mile 3 is basically the same

Mile 4 this year was about 5-8 seconds slower.

Mile 5 this year was just about the same maybe 2 seconds slower.

Mile 6 this year was at least 5 seconds slower.

the .2 was the same-

So anyways this isn't 100% or even Sasha Science but I'm guessing it's pretty close.

From MarcieJ on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 22:50:21

Thanks Clyde!

Sasha-

You said my time at Moab should have been no slower than 1:28. I should have finished my race report but I had a busy week and never got around to it. But I did not give it my all in Moab- I took the first 8 mi fairly easy. I have been dealing with a hamstring/calf issue and have not been able to train as well as I would have liked. I had no idea what to expect for that race, I wanted to take it easy from the start afraid that I would bonk if I didnt- I defintely could have ran Moab at 1:28 if I had given it my all but I didnt kick it in til mile 8. I definetely had gas in the tank at the end.

From Dustin on Sun, Mar 16, 2008 at 00:12:22

Great race today! Way to go after it and win the race. It was fun hanging out with everyone after the race. Hope the leg starts feeling better.

From Paul T on Sun, Mar 16, 2008 at 00:13:47

I could see up ahead at times early in the race, but that didn't last long. You chicked me soundly today. Congratulations on a great race.

From Carrie on Sun, Mar 16, 2008 at 01:31:33

Nice job today babe-- I'm so proud of you!

From Marcie on Sun, Mar 16, 2008 at 11:37:19

WOWZERS! You're amazing! It was so funny 'cause I started just behind you & never saw you again until the end- by the time I finished you looked all refreshed like you hadn't just run a 39 min 10K! I didn't realize this was a 3 min. PR for you! That is SO awesome! It was fun to chat w/ you again! YOU ROCK!

From Christi on Sun, Mar 16, 2008 at 11:40:27

Ok- that last post was from me, somehow I screwed it up and put it from Marcie (miss split personality- hee hee...)
