So I have been MIA for a few months (still running and entering my mileage on private view). For those of you who dont know I am 16 weeks pregnant!  Now that I am feeling better and actually feel like sitting at a computer to enter more than my mileage I am going to start blogging again.

Went to go meet my friend but it was raining so she slept in. I ran back to my house because I didnt feel like running loops to stay close to home in the dark and rain. Went to the gym and did 45 min on elipitical and then thought I would just walk hard on the treadmill at a steep incline to break it up. Walked for 5 min and decided I rather be running and right now I need to take advantage of every minute that I can be running comfortably:) So went home changed my clothes and headed out in light rain. Thought my legs would be tired from the elipitcal but felt great, amazing how good I am still feeling while running. I miss doing hard runs but if I can just maintain a solid base through the rest of this pregnancy I would be so happy.  Ran one of my 6 mile loops. Could have kept going and really wanted to but I need to be careful with not overdoing it since I had already gone to the gym.

Met my friend  for an 8.5 mi run (avg 8:39), the fog was crazy this morning and it was so warm from the cloud coverage. I could have easily been in shorts and t-shirt and still would have been warm. Felt great on the run til the last mile and then my left hip kinda locked up and shot a pain down to my knee, made it back and was planning on adding on but I could bearly do a slow jog. It just felt like it needed to pop so bad. So I went to the gym to do the elipitical to loosen it up, which really helped. So did that for 30 min. I am sure this is stemming from my body adjusting to accomodate this growing person inside me! This is the first time since I got pregnant that something bothered me. When you run easy everyday all those little aches and pains go away.

weights too.

You're amazing! You could slack 2 or even 5 days in a row and you would still be AMAZING! I really am in awe at how much you still do! Sounds like a fun weekend up north, don't you love those hotel gyms? lol, , , . Is it fun to shop now that you know you're having a cute little boy? There just aren't as many options for boy clothes as there are for girls. But, they are for sure cheaper :)

Marci- Still going strong eh? Good for you. I haven't recorded anything on my running blog forever but am starting to get that training itch. I think I will slowly ease back into it! I will keep up with yours! Good luck! You will breeze right through this pregnancy and do great for the marathon in Oct!

Ran with Peg, felt good but calf started to act up last couple miles. I am well in need of new shoes, Steve has a pair waiting for me at his store, just need to find the time to drive over there to pick them up. I liked when his store was just up the street from my house.

how ya doing 1/3 of the triangle? I kind of like the store on my side of the town! However, i do miss the runs from the old store. I need to do some Yoga myself. I am not very limber and it really shows. THe other day some cub scout wanted to help me across the street! :(

Avg pace 8:23 (off Pegs garmin) Somehow I hit something that changed my distance to reading in feet instead of miles, it has done this before but I have a troubleshooting guide that tells you how to switch it back but i have searched for the book and cant find it so I will have to call and see how to fix it. I feel so weird running without it!!!

Marcie! You are AMAZING, girl!

Do you know anyone doing the Lake-to-Lake 50 mile relay this weekend that needs a team member? My team has totally fallen through, and I'm SO bummed. Just thought I would ask :)

How do you even keep running a pace like that PREGNANT? Seriously, I am so impressed! Can you write a book about running while you are pregnant (I'll edit for you)? I really want to be more hardcore running with my next pregnancy (whenever that is).

Anyways, take care :)

What a fun day today. Met Jody and ran 3.4 miles out to the finish line to catch the buses. Told my husband and Jody earlier that I thought I could pull off a 45 with the downhill but wasnt going to push myself to make it happen but would be happy with anything since I am just so dang happy that I still running and feeling great. Felt great the entire race, saw KellieS and talked to her for a split second while running(and lots of other bloggers before and after the race)Ended up coming in at 45 flat. Was very happy with that. Saw TONS of friends and chatted and had my belly rubbed alot. My little guy is a trooper to put up with getting jostled around all the time! Ran back to my in-laws after the race to cool down.  Now I am going to relax and veg out today!

Oh and I am SO SO  HAPPY that my good friend AmberG (on the blog) WON for the womens and that Dustin took the title for the mens. Good job both of you!!!

Ohh felt so much better today! yeah because yesterday was not a great feeling run but I think my blood sugar got really low. I think my little guy has been on growth spurt this week and I dont think I got enough fuel in me. I made the decision to not go with my running group, they were running 12 down the marathon course and after yesterday I was worried about keeping up and running 12. Decided to stick around close and take my cell phone if I needed Garrett to come get me. I planned to run 8 and if felt good then would add around the neighborhood. I felt so much better and just took it really easy. Had to stop and walk once to breath out a side stitch but then was good to go. I ended up adding on more than planned because since my body was agreeing with the run today I did not want it to end. Missed my group alot but was glad I went on my own so I could go at my own pace and not slow them down.

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses....definetly dont feel as guilty making them when I am pregnant! So all you women you have been prego will understand why I didnt want to get up this morning to run. Finding a comfortable position to sleep is the not easiest task to do, I have found this to be one of the most challenging things about being pregnant. My hips start to ache, my arm falls asleep then the other arm falls asleep, my shoulders hurt and my baby thinks its fun to play all night long and dont forget that small bladder either. So this was my night last night along with everyother night. About 4 am woke up for the who knows what time and didnt feel exhausted and thought I am for sure getting up to run because this is just not working (sleep) but then about 10 min before my alarm was supposed to go off I rolled over and fell into the MOST COMFORTABLE position, nothing ached and I felt like I was in heaven. There was no way I was moving out of that spot even if it meant I missed my run!!! So there you go, I think that is pretty dang good reason to stay in bed! But dont think I was completely lazy. I had errands to run after work and got home a little later, was starving and knew I needed to eat , if I ate there was no way I could handle a run and a snack was not going to tide me over. I ate dinner and then went for a 6 mile brisk, power walk. Took 1:30 min.  My legs did feel like they got a pretty good workout from it. Dont know where to really put these miles . But at least I did do something.  Plan on doing my weights while I watch dancing with stars.

Good for me...another day I can keep up with them. I am hoping to be able to keep up with them at least til 30 weeks.

From Mckenzie on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 10:12:48 from 75.169.125.176

You are killing me! I though it was awesome that I ran 20 miles a week pregnant....WAY TO GO! You'll see the results of your hard work after you've had your baby, everything will fall back into place. How is your breathing? I remember it being hard to breathe, I could still go the distance but became so winded.

From MarcieJ on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 12:18:33 from 209.33.196.122

Thanks Michelle, k you just ran a half marathon on sat and did awesome! And thats about as fast as I can go right now!

Mckenzie, thanks so much! My breathing is still pretty good..so far... the only big difference I have started to notice is I get side stitches more frequently and I just have to take some deep breaths and breath it out and then I am fine, I am sure those come from my little guy squishing my insides! I can tell its going to start to get harder though the bigger I get. Hey did you ever wear any of the belly supports when you ran? I dont feel like i need it now but I know i will in the future. I have been looking at some (The Gabrialla-runners world recc. it) but I dont know what to get for sure. Any reccomendations?

From McKenzie on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 14:34:37 from 65.122.119.194

I didn't ever wear the supports. I did hae a belt but it droe me crazy. I felt fine even the day I had my son Maxx I ran without a belt. People would ask me how I did it, I must have looked really funny but all in all I felt fine and never needed one. Does your belly get really hard/tight? Mine did as I ran, it would become had as a rock so there wasn't much jiggling around for him to do.

From Michelle N. on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 19:54:14 from 75.162.116.100

I wore a support with my 3rd just so I could walk. I was GINORMOUS (9 pound boy-2 weeks early). It helped take strain off my back and made it feel like he wasn't falling out.

Ran with the girls and felt great. Left hip got a little achy towards the end. Going to see April tonight to have her work on some knots in my back and will have her go over my hips as well. May take tomorrow off, feel like my hips have been shifting a little more and just want to be extra careful.

Did you have fun at Newport? Did you go to Disneyland? Sorry about your hip! Hope the chiro works it out for you! Dang, ya we should just hang out together w/ our little injuries!---let's do lunch! Saw your friend Peg at the gym this morning, , , I just stared at everyone on the treadmill, and tried not to give them dirty looks ha ha, as I was not even barely breaking a sweat on the weight machines. But, this won't last forever, we just have to be patient! Good luck!!

Oh I am so sorry to hear about your hip, being pregnant does funning thing to those hips. Mine haven't been the same. The time is getting closer:) I bet you are getting so excited to see that little guy.

Do you think you were prego for SG last year. I have thought about that, and when they moved up your due date I am almost certain you were. I think that is why you didn't feel that great. Just a thought and maybe you have already thought about that.

Josse

My hip/back is killing me. I can bearly even walk right now. I start physically therapy tomorrow to see if they can at least get me comfortable. Its crazy I had absolutely no symptoms of hip pain on the left side before hand and then it was so sudden onset. I have always thought there was a good chance I was pregant at SG too because I never felt good after SG but even though my US measured ahead and I am measuring ahead each week with the tape measure, he still is keeping my due date the original one. But I have always thought i was further along. I am getting very excited to get him here!!!

55 min elipitcal at gym, OB dr wanted me to try physical therapy that specialize in womens health issues. So went and tried and dont think I will go back. She thinks its my piriformis muscle that spasmd and is pinching some nerves.  Who knows, all I know is that it really really hurts and has not let up hardly at all. It is the sharpest pain with every step, getting up and down and any sudden rotation. I am embarrassed to go anywhere because I know people are thinking I must be in labor with the way I walk.

Thank goodness for the elipitcal although I hate it, but it is helping keep me sane....somewhat.

From MichelleL on Sat, May 09, 2009 at 18:54:30 from 71.219.40.17

That doesn't sound good. Where exactly is the pain? My sports dr. thought it might be my piriformis pinching my sciatic before my MRI, I hope you don't have what I have (SI stress reaction). My pain was so sharp with every step, and was worse for me doing the elliptical (not while I was on it but afterward it would flare up), crutches had me pain free within days, though I don't wish that on you.

From MarcieJ on Sat, May 09, 2009 at 19:07:00 from 74.211.1.247

I hope I dont have what you have! Did you have any symptoms before the sharp pain started? I felt great on my run (never ever had an ache or pain on ly left hip) and then my leg just locked /seized up up shortly after, it feels alot like muscles and nerves but who knows.

I may have to call and talk to you about it though.

From MichelleL on Sun, May 10, 2009 at 12:10:39 from 71.219.40.17

It doesn't sound the same, thankfully. At least the elliptical isn't hurting you, that is great. What's the plan for next week, regarding doctors and figuring out how to get you back on the road?

From MarcieJ on Sun, May 10, 2009 at 18:42:38 from 74.211.1.247

Oh good..yah I am pretty sure mine is all pregnancy related. My mom says I am carrying alot in my back. For next week I think I am just going to take it easy, do the eliptical and stay off it as much as I can after work. Today it actally feels the best it has felt (lots of rest but not runnable by anymeans though). Even if it starts feeling where I could run I dont know how much I would do at this point. More walking and cross training for the next 2 months for me. Not what I want but what do you do?

From MichelleL on Sun, May 10, 2009 at 19:47:31 from 71.219.40.17

Yeah, the hard thing about pregnancy is if you stop running for a couple of days it can be difficult/dangerous to start up again, though you are in great shape still so if you felt golden I would start up again.

I got some contractions at 32 weeks on my first pregnancy, which we thought were dehydration-induced, so I stopped running for a couple of days then had to walk after that. It was a bummer.

The next pregnancy I made it to 36 weeks, the third I made it jogging (waddling quickly) all the way, though it was only 2.5 miles or so by that point.

You have done awesome and will continue to be dedicated and will snap back after your pregnancy just fine. Perhaps we'll be up and running at the same time :/

Yayyy! I can almost walk with no pain. I can feel my hip a little but I no longer walk with a limp and the sharp pain is GONE. I decided to completely rest it for more than 1 or 2 days. So I have not done the elipitcal this week so far. Tonight or tomorrow I will start back up on it and then hopfeully add some power walking outside or on the treadmill and get back to my twice a week weights too. I really want to try to some lgt running miles this weekend but dont know if i dare. I just feel really large right now but am trying hard to watch what I eat so i dont pack on uneccesary weight. For some reason its easier for me to eat really good when I am working out. Thanks for everyone for all the nice comments and for thinking of me!

So good to hear that you are feeling better!! I am happy to hear that!! I hope these last few weeks of pregnancy are good to you! I am sure they will be. Now, I need to figure out how to eat healthy when I work out. I am the opposite. I feel that I justify eating like crap because I tell myself that I ran or worked out that day and so it's okay. When I don't exercise, I have a much easier time being disciplined with my diet. I need to work on that!! Thanks for the inspiration. Hang in there cute girl!~

60 min on elipitcal at gym, (21 min on the one without the push and pull with arms and 39 on the one with the arm motion). They guy next to me passed some wind and I thought I was going to vomit for a second. It was the worse I ever smelled!   On the plus side I couldnt feel anything in my glute/hip doing the elipitcal but just felt tight when I got off, came home and did some of the stretches the PT showed me last week and then some upper body weights. Feel the best I have so far, walking around the house I feel back to normal. I have to go out and run errands and hopfully it will stay that way even with walking around alot.  I thought I might try running today after the elipitcal but decided not too yet.... Maybe tomorrow or next week.....

Going to go buy a foam rolller today to use on my hips, I have talked to many runners who use one and love it.

Its really Tues June 9 when I am actually posting this post.

SUPRISE....... Little Taylor Michael Jacobsen decided he just couldnt wait to be here and arrived 5 weeks early. He weighed in at 5 lb 9 oz and 19 inches long (thanks to an enormous cone head-so maybe really 17-18 in long).  He in the NICU right now and will be probably til next week. He is doing really well  but did have a little setback today with his bilirubin count and will have to be under the lights for a couple days and then go back to working on feeding. He required some help to breath at first but quickly did not need that anymore. I am doing and feeling really good. Sheesh my delivery was a piece of cake, I guess staying active really does make you have a fast delivery. The nurses and dr were shocked how fast I went. My water broke Sat morning at 6. Got to hospitial at 7 ( not feeling contractions yet) at 8 got ck'd and started to feel some cramping (+2) , got to my room at 9 and started to feel  harder contractions(+3) got my epidural at 10:30-11:00 (+6) 12:30 (8) and then at 1:15 I started to feel like I needed to push, nurse came back at 1:40 and ck'd and said you are having this baby right now! In about 5 min called and got the dr and the NICU team, pushed through 3 rounds of contractions and he was born at 2:05. I am moving around great and really have had no after pain. Let me just tell you how AMAZING the all staff is at DRMC in the L&D, NICU and mom/baby unit and Dr/ Lunt . For having a pre-term baby and expecting the worse tthey  calmed me down and have been nothing but PHENOMONAL. They have an amazing team down here! I feel so blessed to have my family in their care. I will keep ya posted on Taylor.

I cant wait, plan on walking the next couple weeks and then ease back into the running. Cant wait! May even run the Bryce 1/2 even my hubby will let me sneak away for a night!

Great Job Marcie, I agree, just listen to your own body and who cares what others say/think! You are coming back so strong, you never really left though that's the funny thing :) I am a little jealous though of you almost being back to your pre-pregnancy weight, I still have a few pounds lingering and Jace is almost ONE! AHH,, , so really, you are making us look bad, would you stop? j/k You are so dang cute and I'm happy for ya!

BTW, I hope this stupid cleanse doesn't screw up my metabolism, we will see, just started it again (DNF on the weekend) and am only going 3 days. I don't want to miss too much running. Did you feel better after you did your cleanse last spring? How do you think it messed up your metabolism? It isn't easy that's for sure!

From MichelleL on Wed, Jun 24, 2009 at 12:04:56 from 71.35.250.200

I was a little shocked at the 4 to 9 mile running jump, but since you have run three days without issue, you are probably in the clear. Continue to listen to that bod. Are you signed up for St G? I bet you won't have any issues ramping up for the race.

From MarcieJ on Wed, Jun 24, 2009 at 18:11:35 from 74.211.5.229

Amber,

I just felt like once I started eating reg food again that my body just held onto it. It seems like my weight fluctuated alot for a month or two.

Lybi,

My little guy is doing pretty good! The only thing is trying to control his bili levels, they drop and then shoot up again. Its been frustrating and scary because he was preemie and they say continued elevated bili levels can affect a preemies brain. So the dr is watching it really closely. I cant wait to see pic's of your little girl when she comes!

Michelle-

The reason for the jump is because 4 miles on TM feels like 9-10 outside. plus I had to get home to the babe. (did the eliptical before hand) Dont worry I will really listen to my body! And will back off if anything feels out the norm. I am going to do 1-2 days of cross training from here on out. Yes I am signed up for SG, probably wont be super fast but anything is better than last year:)

Thanks everyone! I think my competive racing break was exactly what I needed to get motivated again. I have always heard you come back stronger after having babies and I totally believe it. I feel so much stronger than I did before! Thanks again for all the great comments!

4 months post baby I'm still fat and running 8 min miles! 3 hrs is great even when you haven't just had a baby!

From scotthughes on Sun, Oct 11, 2009 at 23:13:53 from 209.33.211.3

That is an amazing time! Congrats to you. Maybe I should take some time off and have a baby.......well that's not going to happen. But if that is what it would take to run a 3:00 it may be worth figuring out. LOL

I have been MIA on the blog for a long time now. I think for the time being I am still going to take a break from it for awhile longer and maybe someday I will jump back into it. No break from running though! . Hope everyones training is going awesome and thanks to the support you all have been the past few years!!!!
