Last night a couple hours after my run, my hamstring really tightned up and it hurt. This is the first time that it has hurt and not just been tight and annoying (it hadbeen feeling really good for a couple weeks now). I iced and stretched. This morning i could still feel it on walking so I cancelled on Mike for our tempo, afraid I might hurt it worse (sorry Mike and hey isnt it your BIRTHDAY today???)  I am going to go to the gym tonight and get on the elipitcal and maybe do a few light miles on the TM. Then I think the next couple weeks I am going to back off on the miles just a little. I am hoping it is feeling ok so I can get a good quality run in on friday or sat.

A half hour on the elipitcal, wanted to stay on longer but got bored watch the TV  and I could feel it in hamstring.Did some free weights as well. ICE ICE ICE,  HEAT HEAT HEATand STRETCH STRETCH STRETCH alot tonight! I hope it feels better tomorrow. I am incredibly frustrated that its feeling the way it does:(

Marcie, no problem on the cancel. I hope that hamstring eases up for you, best to take care of yourself. My B-Day was yesterday. Colleen and I got home pretty late last night, so I probley couldn't of given you a good tempo anyway. I just took it easy today, (it was cooold)! I will try to get some tempo miles at club on thursday.

Sorry to hear about the hamstring. You are smart to take it easy for a couple days!

From andee on Wed, Feb 06, 2008 at 10:36:53

Sorry to hear about your hamstring. I'm sure that a few days of rest/lighter running will fix it in no time.

From MichelleL on Wed, Feb 06, 2008 at 11:35:51

Dang! Is it the whole hamstring or the top or the bottom? I had pain in the bottom of my hamstring in the weeks before St. George.

From MarcieJ on Wed, Feb 06, 2008 at 11:49:30

Mike,

I am glad it worked out for you. Did you guys go to Vegas to a show? And sorry I missed telling you yesterday.

Christi and Andee,

Thank you, I hope with rest it loosens up.

Michelle,

It used to be right above my knee but now its more in the middle of the hamstring. Its frustrating!

Oh man I don't think anyone is having that great of luck right now. Just keep up with what you are doing and are you heating after you ice? This is the best ecp. for lingering injuries. I hope it heals up quick. You would benifit from some good deep massage on that hammy as well, you know the stuff that make you want to jump off the table.

From MarcieJ on Wed, Feb 06, 2008 at 14:55:59

No I havent been heating, what do I use to heat, a heating pad? My sister-in-law gave me a massage last week but concentrated more on my back where I get really knotted up from the way I sit at work. I will have to get a deep tissue.

From josse on Wed, Feb 06, 2008 at 15:36:23

Yes a heating pad is what I use.

From MarcieJ on Wed, Feb 06, 2008 at 16:28:47

Josse,

Do you think I should completely rest it today and tonight (stretch, ice and heat) or do some cross training with the above?

From josse on Wed, Feb 06, 2008 at 17:40:12

Crosstraining is fine as long as it doesn't agrivate it in any way. I am the queen of crosstraining so you know I would do it if I feel like I shouldn't run:)

From Jody on Wed, Feb 06, 2008 at 20:31:39

Hope you get feeling better soon!! Nothing worse the a nagging injury. I wish we could run together as well. It would be a very fast run for me and a very slow run for you but I could learn alot.

From MarcieJ on Wed, Feb 06, 2008 at 20:35:59

Thanks Jody,

Its been on and off nagging since that Snow Canyon half. I wouldnt care as much if I didnt have alot of races coming up. I think knowing that makes it worse (gets me more frustrated, because I feel if I take even a couple days or lower my miles I feel like its going to ruin my training but I know its not! I just hate missing days!)

MarcieeeeeJ: Short hamstring story, walked 5 miles of St George marathon in 2006, walked 4 miles of the SL Marathon in 2006 due to hamstring issues. I was desperate, found excercise ball hamstring excercises. They have made all the difference in the world, do them 3 times a week and have had no hamstring problems. Hope yours gets better soon. See this web site, many others. May help.

Stay cool, B of BS Rools out.

Brent, it's one E. I think you have used 10 commando points with your dramatic spelling!!!! (Do I use up commando points with excessive exclamation points?)

From MarcieJ on Wed, Feb 06, 2008 at 23:07:41

Thanks Brent I am going to start doing those, thanks a ton! and I kinda like all the "eeeeees".

From josse on Thu, Feb 07, 2008 at 11:28:58

I think the hamsting exercise is a great idea. I often you light weight training to rehab an injury.

Brent 1000000 commando point for the good suggestion:)
