What a beautiful morning! Ran about 3.5 with my running friends (they were going about 5.5) and then cut off to add on an extra big loop to give me 12. Did 6x30sec strides and then the last 3 miles I picked up the pace to low 7's.  My legs were still a little heavy feeling today.

Next week I am going to try not to taper to much but heres my plan and any suggestions are welcome

mon:10mi, tues 8 mi, wed 10 mi, thurs 6-8 mi and fri 4-6mi and Sat Painters. I plan on taking most of these runs fairly easy, should I do one speed workout????

I am getting excited to meet so many of you!

I would do a speed workout on your Tuesday run to keep yourself tuned into the pace you want to run, then take the rest of the week easy, maybe a pickup here and there, but nothing to hard or long.

Great run today.

Great run! Have a fun day - try to relax!!

From ryan on Sat, Jan 12, 2008 at 13:44:29

i would do a tempo run(2-4 miles) wednesday at about 30 sec per mile faster than half race pace. sacrifice alittle quantity for quality.

Marcie, after the run today, I talked with Dave about suggestions for training this upcoming week. I didn't want to taper too much, ya know trying to get use to these miles. He suggested I still hit in the 60's, that would include Painters. I think I will do just that. I plan on some speed work tuesday. Nice job today, good way to finish the week with a good run.

Thanks for all the advice!

Mike, I dont want to taper either. So is ok if I join you then on mon and wed? I can meet you wherever. I just need to be home by 7am. Text me and let know what works best.

If you think you need some speed then Tuesday would be a good day, but I would suggest hitting the track for intervals. Just do a couple miles of tempo in your 8 mile run. Striders or Strides are great to do the day before a race in middle or at the end of you easy run.

From Jon on Sun, Jan 13, 2008 at 12:40:40

I think James met NOT hitting the track for intervals. A few tempo miles is what I would recommend, too- 2 miles at your race pace, just as a mental check.

From James on Sun, Jan 13, 2008 at 23:37:04

Marcie,

Jon is right I meant to say NOT and Jon meant to say meant.

It depends on the goal for Painters. If you want to squeeze every bit of juice out of your current fitness at the expense of setting back your training by a week, the above taper is perfect, and you should do a 2 mile tempo at race pace as Jon suggested to calm down the nerves and to have an idea of what to expect. If you are willing to sacrifice 30-45 seconds to run well in Ogden, then train as normal, still do the above 2 mile tempo, and take what your body will give you in the race. Based on your training, it should still give you a solid PR even with absolutely no taper.

My plan for the race is to still do 15+5 every day prior Mon-Fri. My philosophy is that if you are a marathoner, you should almost never run the half tapered - the setback in the training and the reduced performance in the marathon is not worth the lesser increase in the performance in the half.

Thanks Sasha I like your plan, if I could PR without killing myself then that would be great. If I do Ogden I really would want do well in it.. I will train as normal.

And everyone else thank you, and its okay jon and james I cant spell either!
