Hey Marcie, sorry it's taken me a few days to post on your blog. I think It's awesome that you're signed-up. The blog helps keep all of us motivated.

Keep up the training - I was looking at your LT goals and I don't think you should have any hesitation saying you want to go to the OT. I think if you Girls keep pushing each other you'll be able to start chipping away at your marathon times even more as time goes on. You definitely have the talent.

Thanks Steve-

I think it will really help me stay motivated and its nice to see what others are running and how they are accomplishing it.

Cheri and I are going to start coming on thurs nights starting the week after thanksgiving.

Hey I couldnt remember when those singlets would be ready-just checking to see if they would be ready for this weekends race.

Hi, I just saw your page for the first time. You are the Marcie that ran on our 'River City Runners' Wasatch Back Team, right?

Welcome to the blog! You've got some great times, by the way. Good job at St. George this year!

From marciej on Thu, Nov 15, 2007 at 20:15:07

Cal,

Yep thats me. That was such a fun race! In fact, JaNae(Kevin's sister) just came down this past weekend and were talking about how we cant wait for next year.

Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome to the blog, nice Hobble creek and St.George time. Best to you on your goals.

From MichelleL on Thu, Nov 15, 2007 at 22:56:46

Hi Marcie - I guess you are new on the blog? Welcome! I am excited to watch your training! When I first mentioned OT to my husband he laughed at me, so it can't get much worse than that, eh? Your training seems really strong, and great race times. We've got several ladies on the blog who need to chip away at our marathon times so we can OTQ for 2012. Welcome again!

From Ruthie on Fri, Nov 16, 2007 at 00:03:44

Thanks! Tell Mrs. Stevenson (Cheri... whatever) hi and that she should DEFINITELY get a blog - it's such a party! I'm excited for you gals to start coming to the SG running club on Thursdays, I go and get ditched by the ultra-fast guys all the time. :( Maybe we could meet up for a run sometime before Thanksgiving anyway!? What's your schedule like?

From marciej on Fri, Nov 16, 2007 at 00:06:22

Brent-

Thanks for the welcome! Everyone has been so nice. Both those races I couldnt have asked for better conditions, so thank you for the compliment.

MichelleL,

Also thanks for the welcome, yah I think my Long term goal of OT is a little far fetched but oh well, all we can do is try, right?I have been reading your blogs and am so impressed with your training. I wished I lived in SF so I could train with your group! It seems awesome training. We have a cabin in Provo Canyon so when we come up in the summers I would love to meet up with you guys. Again thanks for the welcome! And I'll take any advice.

Marcie - thoughts on how to get to OTQ level. I would recommend starting off on a 6 days a week schedule with no less than 8 miles each day. Keep the pace no faster than 8:00. A couple times a week throw in some strides - run about 6 times for 20 seconds somewhere between your mile and 5 K race pace. Those should be brisk, but not all out sprint. Once a week, if feeling good and feisty run 3-5 miles at your half-marathon race pace effort. Do this for three weeks, let's see how you handle it. Very important not to skip days! Learn to run outside when it is cold, and your training partners do not show up, that is the key. Failure to do that year round is perhaps the very reason there were 62 women in St. George than ran 3:11:05 or faster, but there were only 11 that made the Trials. For a woman, if we are talking 2:47 vs 2:37 I'd say the difference could be mostly talent, but when it is 3:10 vs 2:45, I would say while talent may be involved, 90% of it is in the consistency.

Sasha,

Thank you for taking the time to comment and give advice to help me improve.

How come no faster than an 8:00 pace?

Marcie

From Sasha Pachev on Fri, Nov 16, 2007 at 22:14:30

For your current level of fitness, you will gain the same aerobic benefits out of 8:00 pace as you would out of 7:20. However, the stress on the body is much less at 8:00 than it is at 7:20. The chances of injuries and of overloading the nervous system are much smaller. Thus you can run more miles, and get more aerobic conditioning.

Welcome to the blog, nice to have another person from St. George on the blog. Actually I live over in La Verkin, but enjoy hanging out with Hooper and the other guys and gals at the running store. I think that would be great if you and Cheri can start coming out to the club runs. I worked with Cheri last year at Snow Canyon Middle and really working with her.
